About the Home

Come live in an Oakland historic landmark - the Ellen Kenna House!

• Built in 1888 and beautifully preserved, our home boasts all the charm and character of a bygone era, with all the modern conveniences you desire. You’ll have access to massive beautifully furnished common areas, on-site parking and laundry, and your own private, fully furnished room.
• Features include intricate woodwork, soaring ceilings hung with chandeliers, and oversized windows that flood the space with natural light.
• In total there are 19 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, 4 huge dining/lounge areas, 2 full kitchens, and 3 sets of washer/dryer units.
• We’re home to residents from all over who enjoy hiking, rock climbing, yoga, board game and movie nights, and even the occasional carpool road trip.

The Property

The house is surrounded by vast gardens with rare, towering trees, edible fruit, and other exotic plants. There are several outdoor seating areas, a chicken coop (no chickens currently though..) and an extensive fine art collection within the home.

The People

We’re fortunate to be home to so many amazing individuals from different countries, cultures, and all walks of life. Tons of long-lasting friendships have been made at the mansion, and a few business partnerships as well.

We LOVE to have fun and socialize, but this is not a party or fraternity house. We’re all working professionals that like to host events from time to time, but generally the home is very quiet and clean.

The Neighborhood

We’re just a few blocks to great local fare including Xochi the Dog (cafe), Champa Garden (Thai), and Philomena Pizza. Many guests of the house will walk together to these spots and hangout for a morning coffee or happy hour. Lucky Supermarket and several pharmacies are also less than a mile away.

For transportation to/from San Francisco and East Bay, we recommend the Lake Merritt BART station. It’s about an 8 minute bike ride from the house, and there are two AC Transit stops within a block of us that will take you there directly in about 10 minutes

Parking

We have 6 on-site parking spaces. Each can be reserved for $60/month, otherwise they are first come first served. Street parking is always free and available.

The price shown is the base rate that applies to most rooms. We have a few small rooms that are less and a few larger rooms that are more. Room options will be based on availability.
